Bergstrom OpenAIR & OpenAIR Plus – Powerful 12V Roof Air Conditioners
The Bergstrom OpenAIR 12V and OpenAIR Plus models rely on modern full-inverter technology and deliver up to 2,000 watts of cooling capacity with a power consumption of only around 750 watts. This makes them among the most efficient 12V roof air conditioners on the market.
Both variants are connected directly to the on-board battery. This reduces system complexity, avoids high inrush currents and enables the parallel operation of other consumers.
The difference between OpenAIR and OpenAIR Plus lies primarily in extended operating comfort. While both models feature remote control and integrated LED lighting, the OpenAIR Plus additionally offers app control and extended comfort functions. This can be a clear added value for demanding end-customer projects.
12V Direct Operation – System Efficiency Advantage
A significant advantage of Bergstrom systems is direct 12V operation. Since no inverter is required, additional conversion losses and system costs are eliminated. At the same time, fusing on campsites remains secondary, as the system is operated via the on-board battery.
Especially in combination with powerful LiFePO₄ batteries and a solar system, a well-thought-out overall system for true self-sufficiency is created. Even larger consumers such as coffee machines or hairdryers can be operated in parallel – a scenario that is often difficult to implement with classic 230V air conditioners.
Operation While Driving and When Stationary
Bergstrom air conditioners are designed for operation both while driving – depending on the alternator – and when stationary. This makes them particularly interesting for families, pet owners and motorhome owners who do not want to forego comfort even in high outside temperatures.
When stationary, it is realistically possible to lower the interior temperature by about seven to eight degrees. With a suitably dimensioned 150 Ah LiFePO₄ battery, several hours of self-sufficient operation are feasible, depending on usage behavior and ambient conditions.

With 2,000 watts of cooling capacity, the Bergstrom OpenAIR offers sufficient reserves for summer temperatures. The inverter technology ensures that the power is regulated as needed, instead of running at full load permanently. This reduces power consumption, noise levels and increases the overall system's efficiency.
Integration into Common Vehicles
Thanks to the standardized 40 x 40 cm roof dimension, the system fits into most common roof hatches. Suitable mounting kits are also available for panel vans. The development of 12V underfloor air conditioners also underlines the manufacturer's innovative approach.
